The Crosses

Milwaukee, WI

RIYL: Die Kreuzen, Voivod, early Hüsker Dü, Big Laugh, Dr Shrinker, Saccharine Trust, Celtic Frost, DeadFinger

On their debut release on the heels of a well-received single, The Crosses forge a sound that bridges their hardcore roots with the angular, progressive metallic edge of bands like Voivod. Fronted by Daniel Kubinski of Die Kreuzen, the band layers dissonant, tension-filled guitar work over tightly controlled, modern hardcore rhythm. Alongside a full set of original material, the record includes a reworked Die Kreuzen track and a Hüsker Dü cover—tying their forward-thinking sound to the Midwestern lineage that shaped them. With guitarist Jim Potter (Dr. Shrinker), bassist Christopher Ortiz (Magnetic Minds / Speed Freaks), and drummer Jesse Sieren (Big Laugh / Revelation Records), The Crosses offer a rare blend of metallic precision and punk urgency.

The Crosses began as a vehicle for Daniel Kubinski to bring classic Die Kreuzen material back to the stage—first revisiting the raw speed of Cows and Beer and the self-titled LP, then gradually expanding into the darker tension of October File and the expansive, post-punk-influenced territory of Century Days. As the lineup solidified—especially with the addition of Sieren on drums—the band naturally evolved into writing original material that reflected the full span of Die Kreuzen’s sonic DNA. The result captures the hardcore ferocity of the first three Die Kreuzen records while benefiting from decades of Kubinski’s vocal evolution and artistic maturity. With Die Kreuzen’s influence long acknowledged by artists from Soundgarden to Sonic Youth, The Crosses feel less like a revival and more like the next logical chapter in that legacy.

We are proud to announce that The Crosses’s debut EP, “Outlier”, is slated for release on April 17, 2026 via Triple Eye Industries, Spectragram Records and Rushmor Records.

TEI-100: Outlier

Now, The Crosses debut ‘proper’ release, the six-track Outlier EP, is undeniable proof that Kubinski, alongside hardcore luminaries Jim Potter, Christopher Ortiz and Jesse Sieren, are much more than a ‘Kreuzen covers band. They’re taking that catalogue as a jumping off point. They honour it, evolve it and take it into today’s hardcore and metal scene with a grin. Followed by a grimace and a swagger that only 40-odd years of experience can deliver.

Just fifteen and a half minutes of flailing hardcore intensity. Breathless and adrenalized. Oddly fresh but also well-seasoned. All in all, Outliers is a fantastic debut EP from a band of experienced professionals. It’s not nostalgia. It doesn’t have the air of one last punch from the retirement home. It sounds entirely contemporary and unique.

It’s genuinely amazing to me what true visionaries can achieve. Not alone, obviously. The original Die Kreuzen members came together and, through their combined adventurous spirit, defined significant cornerstone sounds for the US underground. And all that that entails. That Kubinski can surround himself a second time with a different band of musicians, equally pioneering and definitive, is nothing short of incredible.

I hope that Outlier is just a taste of what’s to come, and that it comes soon. I’d love to see a new generation of enthusiasts, as well as the tubby, greying nostalgia market, of which I am proudly one, appreciate the amazing work and musicianship that the band are capable of.

Until then, all hail The Crosses. They might just be the saviours of your rock and roll soul.

The Crosses manage to thread that needle, delivering a debut EP that feels less like a revival and more like a continuation. Fronted by Daniel Kubinski, whose voice remains as distinct and unyielding as ever, The Crosses don’t attempt to recreate Die Kreuzen’s early chaos so much as expand on its more angular, forward-thinking edges. From the opening moments of “Nails,” it’s clear this isn’t a straightforward hardcore record. The riffs twist rather than charge, the rhythms lock in tight but never settle, and there’s a metallic tension running through everything that nods as much to Voivod as it does to Midwest punk. It’s a snapshot of a band still exploring the full range of what they can do together. But that sense of forward motion is part of what makes it work. The Crosses aren’t looking back. They’re building outward. And if this is just the starting point, there’s a lot more ground left to cover.
